Diving On Sri Lanka’s East Coast
NILAVELI DIVING CENTRE
(Open Daily: 15. March To 15. November, 8 Am To 7 Pm, rest of the year closed because of north east monsoon)
When is Sri Lanka Diving Season?
The best time for diving at the east coast is from mid of April to end of October. Sun is shining, sea is calm, visibility is good. From mid November onwards the diving on the east coast is influenced by the north east monsoon. The sea becomes rough and heavy rain influences the dive conditions.
Due to these conditions our NILAVELI DIVING CENTRE will be closed from 16. November to 14th March. Usually the north east monsoon blows continuously from the north east and carries more humid air from the Indian Ocean. Sometimes there are strong winds and rain but on average never longer than an hour or two. Daily sunshine is even during the monsoon period in average 8 hours a day. Day temperatures are around 30 to 32 Degrees Celsius and night temperatures 26 to 30 Degrees Celsius. Water temperature is the whole year between 26 and 30 Celsius.
Mid of October till mid of April we operate our UNAWATUNA DIVING CENTRE at the south coast of Sri Lanka. Here the south west monsoon ends at around the mid of October and the dive season start.
Scuba Diving In Sri Lanka
Reviews from our valuable clients about Nilaveli Diving Centre.
Friendly, safe and efficient
I booked here because I had used the same company in Unawatuna and was lucky enough to get the same Divemaster, Arne. Not expensive compared with diving in many other places. Easy to find. The best thing was the flexibility that they offer two take two snorkellers, one advanced and one discovery diver in the same boat with no other tourists so it was a nice family trip. The snorkellers saw some sharks – big enough to be interesting but not too scary. For the dive, it was just enjoyable and relaxing even though no amazing sitings.
A great dive base with great dive sites!
I mainly selected this diving centre because of the great reviews on tripadvisor (and a few other things) and I was not disappointed. It was absolutely awesome!
I pre-booked a package of 15 fun dives over the internet (10% rebate) and stayed for a week in the adjacent High Park Hotel.
The diving center is very well run, clean and well staffed, from instructors & Dive masters to the compressor boys who will also help you carry your gear to the boat. Everyone was very friendly and helpful from the start.
High quality dive centre and staff
Having been diving with many dive centers around the world, Nilaveli Diving Centre (NDC) immediately sparked our confidence in their operation when we arrived there to ask about diving with them. On first impression the Centre’s facilities are well organized, the equipment seems to be in good condition (we have our own gear so didn’t test these) and the staff is plentiful around to help you.
